Claude Sonnet 5
Most agentic Sonnet yet. Default on Free and Pro for coding, tools, and daily work.
Claude Sonnet 5 is the model this site is about. Anthropic launched it on June 30, 2026 as the most agentic Sonnet yet: plans, browsers, terminals, and jobs that used to need a larger class. It is the default on Free and Pro, and it is available to Max, Team, and Enterprise users on Claude.ai.
I use it as a daily driver for coding and tool use. The product page leans on partner notes about pull requests that reach a tested result, CRM updates that finish the email, and computer-use agents that take the next click instead of stalling. API callers use claude-sonnet-5 at $2 / $10 per million tokens as listed this month, with cache and batch discounts.
Adaptive thinking is on by default. If you are migrating from Claude Sonnet 4.6, read the platform notes: manual thinking budgets and custom temperature now error. Tokenizer changes can expand token counts. None of that is a reason to avoid 5; it is a reason to re-run evals instead of assuming 4.6 prompts are drop-in forever.
